Empowering General Practitioners: A Comprehensive Guide to Mental Health in Primary Care on ameli.fr

In France, the mental health difficulties of the population have worsened, amplified by the Covid-19 crisis, and doctors – first and foremost general practitioners – are increasingly called upon for reasons of mental suffering. Nearly a third of patients of general practitioners present a psychiatric pathology. About 13% of consultations are related to depression and anxiety disorders alone. 72% of GPs treat at least one patient per week with depression (1).

Apart from work stoppage and/or drug treatment, general practitioners have few easily mobilized therapeutic resources due to the complexity and low visibility of the organization of mental health care and difficult access to psychologists and psychiatrists.

To help them with information, resources and care, the Assurance Maladie therefore wanted to provide them with a new section “Mental health in primary care” on ameli.fr. This offers diagnostic tools pathologies and evaluation of their severity, rgood practice recommendationsof the national directories et premises (psychiatrists, accredited psychologists, specialized structures, support and listening, etc.).
