A lock of hair belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte was sold for an exorbitant price during an auction in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, France, on Sunday.

A major collector bought the wick for 7,700 euros ($10,920.39).

The wick is said to have been cut while the Emperor was aboard the ship Northumberland in 1815.

Initially, the value of the wick, presented in a gold medallion, was estimated between 1,200 and 1,500 euros (1,701.33 and 2,126.66 dollars).
