Equipment for the differently abled should be carried on flights free of charge Flights should carry disabled equipment free of charge

RIYADH: The Saudi Consumer Protection Association (CPA) has said that all airlines are obliged to carry assistive devices for people with disabilities free of charge, regardless of baggage weight. According to the Code of Consumer Rights, equipment for disabled persons should not be counted in baggage when weighing it. Companies are obliged to collect and deliver the disabled passenger’s equipment to the aircraft door. CPA stated that this is one of the rights of the differently abled. The CPA had earlier disclosed regarding the compensation to be paid by the airlines in case of delay of the passengers’ baggage. The airlines are liable to pay compensation equal to 20 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) for each day of delay in getting the luggage to the domestic passengers. The maximum compensation is 100 SDR. Compensation for each day of delay is equal to 40 SDRs.
