Defending champion Stefan Bissegger won the silver medal in the European Championship time trial in Emmen, the Netherlands. Stefan Küng fell and ended up bleeding in 11th place.
The two Thurgovians therefore experienced an opposite fate. Bissegger, who started cautiously, finished strong, which allowed him to steal the silver medal from Belgian Wout van Aert by… 22 hundredths. The race was crushed by the young Englishman Joshua Tarling (19), who beat Bissegger by 42 seconds.
While a place on the podium seemed promised to him, Küng fell into a barrier in a rather incomprehensible way. He thus ruined his chances of a medal.
