European Commission sees it premature to talk about sanctions against Venezuela

This Tuesday the European Comission (CE) indicated that they continue to bet on the search for “a way out of the crisis” in Venezuelaand assured that talking about sanctions is “premature”just a few days after the presidential elections in that country.

“We will continue to support the search for a solution to the political crisis in Venezuela. Talking about sanctions at this stage is premature. Discussions between Member States are continuing,” said Peter Stano, spokesman for the European Commission’s Foreign Affairs.

At the same time, Stano added that the community club is engaged in interactions with partners at national, regional and international levels to analyze the entire process and decide on potential next steps.

“Any debate or decision on sanctions is taking place in confidentiality between Member States, so it is very premature. Right now we are at a stage where Member States are analysing the situation,” he stressed.
