Gandia, Spain – Five Maltese snooker players are preparing to showcase their talent on the international stage as they compete at the 2026 European Snooker Championship, organized by the European Billiards and Snooker Association (EBSA). The tournament, a key event on the amateur snooker calendar, will be held in Gandia, Spain, from March 8th to 14th, attracting a total of 173 players.

The EBSA European Championships represent a significant opportunity for aspiring professionals to prove their skills and potentially earn a place on the World Snooker Tour. Europe boasts a thriving snooker scene, with over 49 active member countries within the EBSA, and the championships serve as a platform for the continent’s most promising talent. This year’s event in Gandia will feature both the European Under-21 Championship (March 5-8) and the flagship European Championship (March 8-14), offering a diverse range of competitive snooker.

Alongside the EBSA European Championships in Gandia, the World Open is scheduled to capture place in Yushan, China, from March 16th to 22nd. This professional tournament offers a substantial top prize of £175,000 and carries significant weight in the ranking races for the World Championship and tour survival. The Tour Championship, featuring the top 12 players on the one-year ranking list, will conclude the month in Manchester.

The World Open’s outcome could be decisive in determining qualification for the Tour Championship, as well as World Championship seeding and tour survival positions. Barry Hawkins recently kickstarted the month by winning the Welsh Open on March 1st, setting the stage for a competitive few weeks on the World Snooker Tour.
