European Trade Union Confederation: Fighting for Workers’ Rights and Economic Solidarity

2023-12-12 18:48:04

The European Trade Union Confederation today fears a return to budgetary orthodoxy. On its website, it denounces the desire of certain European finance ministers to “bring Europe back to strict austerity rules. […] Workers need public investments in education, health care, adequate wages, and a sustainable future“, she underlines. The unions are calling for a European solidarity mechanism equivalent to what was put in place to compensate for the economic shock caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The activists are expected this morning at Place Polaert in Brussels. Speeches will be given there before the procession sets off on the Petite Ceinture, bound for Place Jean Rey, near the European institutions.
