Ex-BVT boss Gridling: ÖVP let the FPÖ “act and act as she wanted” – domestic

Only three months following Herbert Kickl (FPÖ) took office as Minister of the Interior, police officers from an anti-drug unit stormed the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BVT) on February 28, 2018. On the orders of the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA), they searched the offices of the intelligence and right-wing extremism departments, and the then BVT director Peter Gridling was suspended. It was the culmination of a campaign to slander the BVT, which began with anonymous letters to journalists and public prosecutors. A FPÖ politician had previously said that the BVT had to be “switched off”. Now, in the book, Surprise Attack, Gridling has presented his view of events.
