The Donautheater Krems ensemble is taking on a very special challenge: starting this week, it will be performing the play “Josef and Maria” by the well-known Austrian writer Peter Turrini.

Author took a lot of time for visitors from Krems

The author himself will not be able to attend one of the three upcoming performances – so he has invited the ensemble to his home. The main actors Hanna Mayer and Heinz Kubinecz, stage musician Klaus Bergmaier and director Helmut Mayer were given the unique opportunity to talk to Turrini regarding the production. He took a lot of time to get to know the members of the ensemble and gave his blessing.

The play dates from 1998

Anyone who wants to attend one of the performances can look forward to an authentic interpretation of “Josef and Mary”. The version of “Josef and Maria” played in Krems dates from 1998. The main characters – the temporary night watchman Josef, played by Heinz Kubinecz, and the cleaning lady Maria, played by Hanna Mayer, are “leftovers” who are in a department store on Christmas Eve meet each other. As the play progresses, their biography is revealed and they regain their will to live.

The three performances will take place on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th, at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, November 26th, 11 a.m., in the music school’s ballroom. Entrance tickets are available for 18 euros, more information is available on www.donautheater.at available.
