Although humanity is still looking for ways to recover from the blows of the covid-19 pandemic, Experts warn regarding a new threat: Disease X.
The aforementioned disease X, has set off the alarms of a group of experts, who comment on a possible international epidemiccaused by a currently unknown pathogen.
According to a publication for The Daily TelegraphDr. Richard Hatchett, CEO of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), stressed that this is not a science fiction thingand should be taken seriously.
“Epidemic disease is a global threat that requires collective action. We can’t stop new pathogens from emerging, but together we can prevent the devastation they cause. Because if we know anything, it is that disease X, when it attacks, will not respect borders”Hatchett emphasized.
Such disease X was recently added to the WHO list of priority diseases. And it is that this unknown pathogen, might overcome the impact of diseases lethalsuch as Ebola, Zika, and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS.
Scientists have estimated that there are 1.67 million viruses yet to be discovered in mammals and birds, and approximately half of them have the potential to spread to the humans.
Already in 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO), gave this unknown future outbreak a placeholder name: Disease X.
