In addition to the successes in the Doberg, Patris and Dupé cases, Anderlecht experienced some setbacks during this transfer window. Brecht Dejaegere is among the players approached who ended up signing elsewhere.
As with Maxime Dupé, Anderlecht almost took advantage of another confirmed player from Toulouse left free. Brecht Dejaegere was also probed but eventually signed for Charlotte FC in MLS. In an interview with “Les Violets.com”, he goes behind the scenes of his transfer window.
The former Ghent concedes in particular having opened the door to a return to Belgium: “In May, when Charlotte came to the information, we did not feel too comfortable going there with my wife, who is pregnant. I asked my agent for a club in Belgium or France. Anderlecht contacted me, but it was a bit complicated”.
Without going into the details of the negotiations with Anderlecht, Dejaegere confirms that the financial aspect played a role: “Al Jazira also came to the news, but Charlotte came back in the race and I finally decided to accept their offer. They made a financial effort. In France, Metz or Reims were interested in my profile. But I told myself that in Ligue 1, it was Toulouse or nothing”. Here he is now the fourth Belgian to play in MLS with Dante Vanzeir, Christian Benteke and Logan Ndembe.
