Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was released in 2022 and received a major expansion in March. As it turned out, the game was not originally intended to be released on the Nintendo Switch. This was told by Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft. The Japanese corporation wanted Sparks of Hope to be released on the next generation of Nintendo consoles, but the publisher did not listen to this, thereby depriving itself of more benefits. The first part, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was released in 2017 and gathered over 7.5 million players. Despite five years of development and positive reviews, Sparks of Hope was a commercial disappointment for Ubisoft and Nintendo.
