Extension of the mechanism of cross-border aid delivery to Syria

The 15 members of the UN Security Council agreed to extend the mechanism for the delivery of humanitarian aid across the border to Syria for six months, in response to Russia’s desire to confront Western countries, which demanded a one-year extension of the mechanism, diplomatic sources said Monday.

The effects of this mechanism expired on Sunday evening.

The Security Council is expected to vote later on Monday to confirm the extension of the mechanism, with the expectation that it will be extended in January for an additional six months, provided a new resolution is adopted, diplomats told AFP.
