Ahmed El-Zeini, head of the Building Materials Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, told Masrawy that Ezz Steel Company raised the price of iron by 1,500 pounds per ton for the second time in a month.
Al-Zayni added that the price of a ton of iron delivered to the factory land in Ezz Steel Company amounts to 17,000 pounds per ton, as of today.
The Ezz Steel Company had raised iron prices by 500 pounds during the last period, bringing the value of the increase to two thousand pounds per ton in the company so far.
Al-Zayni stated that the Suez Steel Company also raised the price of a ton by regarding 1,500 pounds, bringing the price of a ton of iron delivered at the company’s factory land to 16,900 pounds, as of today.
The average price of a ton of iron delivered to the factory land ranges between 17 and 18 thousand pounds, and the average price of a ton for the consumer ranges between 18,300 and 19,500 pounds, according to the head of the division.
Egypt produces regarding 7.9 million tons of rebar, regarding 4.5 million tons of billets, while it imports 3.5 million tons of billets, according to data from the Chamber of Metallurgical Industries.
