Failed Attempt to Create World’s Longest Cycling Chain: GRACQ and Fietsersbond’s Efforts for Safer Bike Use

2023-09-17 17:10:28

The bicycle user organizations GRACQ and Fietsersbond failed on Sunday to create the longest cycling chain in the world, between Brussels, Halle and Tubize, we learned from the Fietsersbond.

Despite the participation of 500 cyclists and a simultaneous start in the three cities, the chain might not be completed over the 22 kilometers long necessary to beat the record. The attempt was part of Mobility Week and Car-Free Sunday in Brussels.

It was still an opportunity for the two organizations to recall the efforts still necessary to improve the use of bicycles in large cities, especially in terms of safety. The route, which linked the three Regions of the country, aimed to convey a national message and ask that cycling be better taken into account in each of these three Regions.
