Relatives of the murdered Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, Orlando Jorge Mera, They expressed this Monday that they “forgive the perpetrator” on behalf of their relative, whom they defined as a person who did not keep “resentment”.
However, the Jorge Villegas family said, in a statement, that the incident is being investigated by the authorities and that “we fully trust” them.
“The circumstances of the incident and its consequent investigation are in the hands of the competent authorities. We are certain that these will reach a good destination, until the facts are clarified and justice is served. We fully trust our authorities.” the statement details.
Jorge Mera was shot dead around noon this Monday in his office at the Ministry of Environment by “a childhood friend”. The Presidency of the Republic identified him as Miguel Cruz and he is under the control of the authorities.
The document signed by the Jorge Villegas family confirms that their relative had died, “victim of several shots perpetrated by a childhood friend whom he received in his office at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources”.
In the document he also thanks the signs of solidarity received and asks society to respect his privacy, “in such a difficult and painful moment”.
