Madrid: Famous Spanish midfielder David Silva has ended his football career following being injured during pre-season training. He is one of the greatest midfielders of all time for English Premier League club Manchester City, winning one World Cup and two Euro titles as a member of the Spain national team. He suffered a serious knee injury last week while preparing for the fourth season for Real Sociedad in the Spanish La Liga. With this, he was forced to stop playing at the age of 37.

“Today is a sad day for me. It’s time to say goodbye to what I’ve dedicated my whole life to,” Silva said in a video posted on his social media accounts. After leading Real Sociedad to fourth place in La Liga, the player was preparing for the Champions League. He was a key presence in the Spanish team that won the 2008 European Championship, 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.

He also won four English Premier League titles in a decade with Manchester City. The club erected a statue of him outside the Etihad Stadium as a mark of respect. He started his senior career in Valencia in 2003. Later, playing for Eibar and Celta clubs in Spain, he went to England. Silva made 309 appearances for City from 2010 to 2020, scoring 60 goals. He scored 35 goals in 125 international appearances for Spain between 2006-18.
