An armed man was killed during an exchange of fire near the US Consulate building in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The incident also resulted in the death of a member of the consulate’s security guards, who succumbed to his wounds.

The Saudi Press Agency, SPA, said on the authority of the media spokesperson for the Makkah Al-Mukarramah police that at (6:45) in the evening on Wednesday corresponding to 10/12/1444 AH, a person in a car stopped near the American Consulate building in Jeddah Governorate and got out of it holding a firearm in his hand. The competent security authorities took the initiative to deal with him as required by the situation, and the exchange of fire resulted in his death.

The media spokesman added that one of the Nepalese workers in the consulate’s security guards was injured, leading to his death.

Security investigations are still underway to ascertain the circumstances of the accident, according to the Saudi security spokesman.
