Fatal Head-On Collision Leaves Female Driver Dead on Chaussée de Tournai (RN7) in Leuze-en-Hainaut

A female driver was killed instantly following a head-on collision on the Chaussée de Tournai (RN7) in Leuze-en-Hainaut, late Monday morning. The road was still closed to traffic around 1 p.m., firefighters said.

The emergency services of Picardy Wallonia were alerted Monday morning, shortly before 10:00 a.m., of a serious traffic accident involving two cars near the Festu bridge in Pipaix, in the entity of Leuze-en-Hainaut.

The accident occurred at the exit of the bridge which overlooks the railway line linking Tournai and Brussels. At the exit of the Festu bridge bend, a driver heading towards Leuze collided with a vehicle heading towards Tournai. “This frontal collision was extremely violent. When we arrived on site, the driver, aged around fifty, had already died in her car, registered in Belgium. There was no extrication,” said Captain Eric Stasik who led the intervention. “In the other vehicle, a Mercedes, the driver was not injured,” added the officer.

Coming from the Blaton and Leuze barracks, two extrication vehicles, a marking truck and a command vehicle were dispatched by the emergency services to the scene. Coming from Ath, Leuze and Blaton, two ambulances and a Smur vehicle were sent to the scene.
