JR Tohoku Line, trip and fall

November 5, 2023 6:52pm

Around 9:10 a.m. on the 5th, Takashi Hashimoto (34), a neighbor whose occupation is unknown, was hit by a freight train at the JR Tohoku Line railroad crossing in Gonome Shisada, Fukushima City. After being transported to the hospital, he was confirmed dead. According to the Fukushima Police Station, analysis of multiple security cameras in the area revealed that Hashimoto entered the railroad crossing with a cane, tripped over something, and fell, unable to get up before the accident.

The circuit breaker went down following he fell. The freight train spotted Hashimoto and applied the brakes, but it was too late. Hashimoto lived alone in a nearby apartment, and it is believed he was on his way home from shopping.

The cane was not a white cane used by the visually impaired. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
