The wife of the man found dead Thursday evening in Aalst and who had been seriously injured is suspected of murder, said the East Flanders prosecutor’s office on Friday.
The circumstances of the facts are not yet clear. A 50-year-old man was found dead while his 44-year-old girlfriend was taken to hospital.
According to the first findings, the man was killed violently, said the prosecution. Notified of the facts, the prosecution appointed a medical examiner and an examining magistrate. The woman was arrested at the request of the prosecution, who suspect her of murder. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the events is continuing.
The 51-year-old man was reportedly stabbed to death and his partner’s life was no longer threatened. However, the prosecution was unable to confirm these two pieces of information.
The woman’s state of health will determine whether she can be questioned or presented to the investigating judge. The latter can also place her under an arrest warrant in the hospital. The four children in the family are safe and sound and have been taken into care by social services.
