Federal Revenue seizes R$500,000 worth of cell phones smuggled at the MS Post Office

The Federal Revenue seized around 300 smuggled smartphones at the Correios Distribution Center in Campo Grande, capital of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Altogether, the Seized cell phones were valued at around R$500,000, and the senders did not pay the due import tax. The brands and models were not revealed, but it is possible to see iPhones and POCO cell phones in the photo released by the operation.

According to information from the IRS, all the goods had been posted in several cities close to the border with Paraguay and, in addition to Campo Grande, these devices would be sent to several Brazilian states.

The IRS investigated the case and discovered that the objects resulting from the crime of embezzlement even had an invoice, but they had been issued by a company known for being “notary”. In other words, it specializes in selling cold notes to heat up goods.

After completion of the process, all cell phones will be sent to the Revenue’s seized goods warehouse in Campo Grande, and may be auctioned, donated to partner institutions or incorporated by public bodies.

The case will remain in the focus of the Revenue to locate all senders, since the crime of embezzlement carries a penalty of 1 to 4 years in prison. The agency also highlighted the participation of Correios in the operation by collaborating with the investigations.
