The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has announced that 7-times world champion Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes car was among the cars selected for the comprehensive checks and audit process following the Hungarian Grand Prix, the final round of the first part of the 2022 Formula One season.
The audit process included a comprehensive examination of the steering wheel and the complete electronic systems of the Mercedes car, in addition to the electrical connections. The FIA revealed that Hamilton’s car was fully legal.
This evaluation process took place following the Hungarian Grand Prix, which was held at the beginning of this month, but the International Federation had announced the tests today, as technical officer Joe Bauer published his report this morning.
The technical report said: “After the Hungarian Grand Prix, car #44 was chosen at random from the top ten BIM cars for an extensive vetting process. The steering wheel, interior electronic systems, electrical connections, as well as software were examined.
And he continued: “All the pieces that were checked are in full compliance with the technical regulations for the 2022 season.”
Hamilton’s car was previously subjected to the same scrutiny following the Saudi Grand Prix. As in Budapest, the Mercedes was technically championship-compliant.
Full inspections are part of the FIA’s plan to ensure that vehicles comply with the regulations. As always, all cars undergo post-race checks, but this year the FIA does a comprehensive test on one car following each race, and it is selected from the top 10.
