canadian Firm Gusta Steps In After Yves Veggie Cuisine Halts Production
Montreal-based Gusta is swiftly responding to the unexpected cessation of operations by Yves Veggie Cuisine, aiming to fill the gap in the Canadian refrigerated vegan products market. The declaration of Yves Veggie cuisine’s shutdown, delivered via Instagram, has left many consumers searching for alternatives.
A Strategic Response to Market Disruption
Martin Valiquette, President of Gusta, emphasized the notable presence Yves Veggie Cuisine held in the sector. “Their disappearance creates a considerable void,” he stated, noting the urgency to act as grocery stores prepare for depleted shelves in the coming weeks. Gusta has strategically positioned itself to meet the demand for Demi slices, minced products, and burgers.

Launched in 1985, “Yves meats” became a household name for those seeking meat alternatives, occupying significant shelf space in supermarkets. The brand, previously acquired by Hain Celestial in 2002, was widely recognized for products like sausages, sandwich slices, and minced meat substitutes.
Gusta Ramps Up Production to Meet Demand
To minimize disruption for consumers, Gusta is producing products closely mirroring those previously offered by Yves Veg

Gusta products are not as good. This doesn’t mean they can’t improve. I have been a vegetarian for over 50 years and the closure of Yves is going to bring a real challenge to find products that we can continue to use in recipes. Yves quality was really amazing and I am very sad to see them go.
If Yves is being discontinued because of declining sales, how is it that Gusta can do better?? The answer: Yves is NOT being discontinued for declining sales — that’s just publicity — behind the scenes there has been a take over. Even the packaging of Gusta is clearly a rip-off of Yves. Bottom line: the vegan products made the old-fashioned way that we were perfectly satisfied with are being exchanged for “plant based” foodstuff. “Plant based” is a newer industry that uses questionable materials in the production of what we (apparently) must get used to consuming. The standards are being lowered another notch once again.
