Finance the universal income by taxing the big fortunes? : “We are already one of the three most taxed OECD countries”, says Georges-Louis Bouchez

For Georges-Louis Bouchez, however, taxing large fortunes more is unlikely. “The contribution of the broadest shoulders has already been made, it is the securities account tax. Then, to consider that we might raise more taxes in the country which is among the three most taxed countries of the OECD on labor and capital…”

However, the president of the MR specifies that the taxes of the citizens would take into account the differences in income.

In his project, he would not create any additional taxation but would redirect certain masses. Employment aid would, on the other hand, be abolished. “They lose interest because today we help you finance part of the salary but part of the income would already be financed”he explains.

But then, should the Belgians fear a reduction in wages if the universal income were recorded? “We are not lowering wages, but the integration of a universal income is such a big bang that obviously changes will occur because there will be smoothing effects. But for the rest, we achieve with universal income a great claim of the left: individualization of rights. The universal income would make it possible to make life choices in complete freedom and to lift controls.”
