Fines of $82,000 after being forcibly tied to her airplane seat

A woman who had to be taped to her seat aboard an American Airlines flight following she tried to attack the crew and open a door mid-flight is facing fines totaling nearly $82,000.

This is the largest fine given by the US Federal Aviation Agency.

The incident dates back to July 6, 2021 aboard flight 1774 from Dallas, Texas to the city of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Videos of the passenger posted on the Web show her completely immobilized in her seat thanks to several layers of adhesive tape.

According to several passengers on board, the woman was panicked before landing. She allegedly started screaming, asking to be let out.

“I absolutely have to leave this plane. You have to let me out,” she cried.

The woman even allegedly attacked and bit a flight attendant as she tried to open the front door of the plane.

She therefore had to be attached “for her safety, and that of the other passengers and crew on board”, specifies the airline.

The woman has 30 days to respond to the Federal Agency and contest the fine. However, the Agency specifies that it has a “zero tolerance” policy for inappropriate behavior on board aircraft.
