Fire at Maguette-Lô hospital: the investigation points to “negligence” (minister)

Dakar, Apr 29 (APS) – The provisional report of the investigation into the fire at Maguette Lô hospital in Linguère (Louga, North) concluded that the neonatal service was neglected, the Minister of Health revealed on Thursday. and Social Action, Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr.

“ The provisional report made available to us by those in charge of the survey allowed us to note a negligence in relation to the neonatal service, ” he said on the sidelines of the joint annual review (RAC) of the Plan. National Health and Social Development (PNDSS).

Asked about the measures taken by the Ministry of Health and Social Action following this tragedy which cost the lives of five newborns, the Minister indicates that measures have already been taken after the observation of these “negligence”.

Thus, it was decided to ” relieve the Director of the hospital and ask all the people in post at the level of the neonatal service to put themselves at the disposal of the investigation ”.

The minister assured that “all the light will be shed on this tragedy” which occurred last Saturday, in the neonatology service where premature newborns are interned.

Five babies perished Saturday in a fire in the neonatology department of Magatte-Lô hospital, resulting in the death of five newborns.

The director of this public health establishment, Abdou Sarr, announced on Tuesday that he had resigned from his post citing “personal convenience”.

On Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, the Head of State asked the Minister of Health and Social Action to ensure that “ all the light ” is shed on this fire.

Macky Sall stressed “ the need to rigorously sanction the shortcomings noted and to deploy all the psychosocial assistance required for bereaved parents, ” according to the press release that sanctioned the meeting.
