Shortly before Christmas, the first and second candles on the country’s Advent wreaths have usually already burned down onto small pillars. Then special caution is needed, says Richard Berger from the Federal Fire Brigade Association. The wires with which the candles are attached can transfer the heat directly into the Advent wreath, which is usually already dried out, and then there is a risk of fire – and one that many people do not have on their radar.
