First French-speaking Surfing Championships: Tahitian Surfers Shine in Capbreton

Tahiti, September 25, 2023 – Takihei Ellacott, Anuaiterai Gatien and Maunakea Hioe stood out this Sunday in Caprebreton, in the southwest of France, where the first French-speaking surfing championships were organized. Maunakea Hioe notably placed second in U16.

Takihei Ellacott, Anuaiterai Gatien and Maunakea Hioe took part this Sunday, in Capbreton in the Landes, in the first French-speaking surfing championship, also called Quiksilver Challenge. The competition brought together selections of young people from countries such as Switzerland, Senegal and other overseas departments.

And the Tahitian hopes shone on the Santocha spot in beautiful waves of 1.50 m to 2 m. Among the girls, in U14, Takihei Ellacott placed fourth. A U14 category won by Tya Zebrowski, daughter of Tahitian snowboarder Gary Zebrowski. Among the boys, Maunakea Hioe took second place in U16 and Anuaiterai Gatien placed third in U14.
