Will the First Republic Bank experience the same fate as its Californian counterpart Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), declared bankrupt on March 10 and bought by First Citizens for 72 billion dollars? The answer is not self-evident. The intrinsic causes of their descent into hell are the same, the symptoms are identical: stock market meltdown provoking customer mistrust, therefore massive withdrawals, maintaining a vicious circle leading to bankruptcy.
