A series of explosions were heard in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa on Sunday evening as Russia launched a wave of attacks in southern Ukraine, public broadcaster Suspilne reported.

The Ukrainian Air Force first warned about a missile flying in the direction of Odessa around 9:00 p.m. local (and Lithuanian) time. Soon after, it was reported that several groups of Russian-launched Shahed drones were flying in the southern direction of the country.

“The first Shahed group is moving along the Ukrainian-Moldovan border to the northwest. The second group is north of Odessa and moving north. Three more groups are approaching Odessa from the Black Sea,” the Ukrainian Air Force later informed Telegram.

Local authorities and local media reported that an air defense system had been activated in the region.

Explosions were also reported in Kherson. The Air Force also warned of the risk of missile launches in the direction of Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Zaporizhia.
