Five years ago, returning from a trip to South America, Guillaume, a classmate from the Collège du Christ-Roi, gave her a pair of slippers stuffed with alpaca wool. Unexpected comfort that will make him click. “When you are in a wheelchair, blood circulation is not optimal and the extremities are quickly cold, even in summer, specifies Nassim Benoussaid. This gift pushed us to develop a solution by creating the Flemar slippers, the cosiest in the world. With my friends Guillaume and Maxime, we went to Peru to find the best raw materials and ancestral craftsmanship. ” The Manufast adapted workshop is in charge of packaging these slippers in alpaca wool, reputed to be soft, thermoregulatory and hypoallergenic.
Nassim is now 33 years old and has a stack of diplomas, in Physics, in Applied Mathematics Engineering, in Management Sciences and in Business Creation. Currently, while co-directing Flemar with his two New Louvanist friends, the young man works in artificial intelligence and programming for the American computer giant Cisco. On a personal level, and to make his daily life easier, he created – 4 years ago – an inclusive shared accommodation project allowing him to live independently of his family and public organisations. “I live with three roommates in a Brussels house adapted to my needs. They help me with the small daily gestures in exchange for a favorable rent. ”
In the coming weeks, Nassim will join the 2023-2024 cohort of the impact leadership program Belgium’s 40 under 40. “I hope to meet other Belgian leaders of tomorrow there in order to be able to have a positive impact on our society. ” A great ambition that he has already applied in his business, since Flemar offers a pair of slippers to a person with a disability each time he sells 15 pairs via his website or on a craft market. Nearly 250 pairs have already been offered, and more than 80 people have registered on the site’s waiting list.
