Flemish Toy Store Fun Faces Bankruptcy: Impact of Inflation, Online Competition, and Drop in Consumption

Inflation, drop in consumption and online competition have taken their toll on the Flemish toy store “Fun”. “We have come to the conclusion that initiatives aimed at improving store profitability are unlikely to reverse the trend. The economic situation of Fun and its subsidiaries has become unsustainable in its current form,” the company said in a press release.

“Everything for 1 euro”, “TEDi”, the store which competes with Action, opens a second store in Belgium

On the verge of bankruptcy, the chain of toy stores specializing in toys, baby items and stationery is looking for buyers, in vain. The 29 stores in Flanders, which have no less than 208 employees, were informed this Wednesday by management of the financial situation of “Fun”. On Monday, a major store clearance will take place. The cash generated will be used to pay salaries and operating costs.
