The damage caused by the flood that inundated Oberpinzgau in July 2021 has still not been completely eliminated. Heavy rains had caused flooding and severe flooding. Large sections of the Salzburg local railway were destroyed by mudslides. The reconstruction of the line is still in progress. In order to prevent such extreme events, the state of Salzburg wants to create retention areas in five side valleys of the Salzach. But the planned pools are in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
