Flood: UN Secretary General in Pakistan | UN chief urges support for flood-hit Pakistan

Islamabad: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres visited Pakistan which is suffering from flood disaster. He appealed that Pakistan is in the face of an unprecedented disaster where nearly 1,400 people have died and more than 10 lakh people have been left homeless and the world needs help. He took stock of the situation following meeting Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Minister of State for External Affairs Hina Rabbani and senior officials.

Guterres said at a joint press conference that the country is in trouble without adequate international aid. Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said that the visit of the UN Secretary General will help draw the world’s attention to the pathetic situation in the country.

Three months of rains have left one-third of Pakistan under water. Floods following record rainfall affected more than 3.3 crore people. Crops are destroyed and water does not recede, unable to grow crops and facing food shortages.
