Floodwaters of Despair: Ciudad Bolívar Reels from Catastrophic Downpour

The heavy rains in Ciudad Bolivar caused a river to flood this weekend, leaving 25 families from three communities affected.

The affected neighbors resided in the sectors El Mereyal, La Dinamita and Cañafistolathe latter being surprised by the increase in the river’s flow, causing the flooding of about 20 homes where there was loss of belongings and appliances.

Those affected highlighted that there was a relocation promise made by the regional government two years ago.

Let them come, let them relocate us, we are mothers of families, the houses are already uninhabitable. We are approximately 20 families whose house is collapsing,” said Merlyn Soto, a community resident.

In the La Dinamita neighborhood, five homes were flooded, while in Mereyal, the water destroyed a bridge.

Until now, only Civil Protection officials have made visits to the affected sectors.
