Florida Democratic Party Cancels Primaries, Only Republican Party Voters to Cast Ballots – Election Day 2023

2024-03-19 11:05:27

This Tuesday is election day in Florida, but only voters registered in the Republican party will go out to vote.

This is because the Florida Democratic Party decided to cancel its primaries, also scheduled for March 19, by only having one person on the ballot: President Joe Biden.

The decision to cancel the Democratic primary was met with some criticism, especially from some of Biden’s opponents.

In December, writer Mariannne Williamson, lawmaker Dean Phillips and political commentator Cenk Uygur said they wanted to participate in the primaries, but party officials said the candidates had already been chosen by a special committee.

According to Democratic Party delegate selection plana party executive committee will consider and approve a list of presidential candidates and send the list of those selected to the Secretary of State by November 30, 2023.

In the Florida primary, 250 delegates are up for grabs.
