Foreign Ministry celebrates two years of the Climate Alliance and a fair energy transition between Colombia and Germany

Colombia and Germany Kickstart High-Level Dialogue on Climate Alliance and Fair Energy Transition

Bogotá, June 4, 2025 – In a significant step towards sustainable development, Colombia and Germany have launched the first high-level dialogue on their climate alliance and fair energy transition. The event, held at the University of Los Andes, was co-chaired by Colombia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Edwin Palma, and the Federal Ministry of Economy and Protection of the Climate of Germany (BMWK).

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The climate alliance between Colombia and Germany was established in 2022 following a visit by Jennifer Morgan, the German government’s secretary of state and special envoy for international climate policy. The alliance aims to consolidate joint efforts in climate change mitigation and sustainable development, promoting concrete actions for environmental protection. Since its inception, the alliance has fostered robust cooperation in areas such as fair energy transition and environmental conservation.

A Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

Colombia reaffirmed its commitment to a fair energy transition at the highest political level, aligning with its goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030. The dialogue marked the beginning of a week-long series of commemorative activities celebrating two years of the Alliance, focusing on joint efforts in climate action, energy transition, and biodiversity protection.

Public Events and Interactive Exhibits

As part of the festivities, the Alliance hosted public events featuring expert conversations from civil society, academia, the private sector, and government. These discussions promoted participatory and inclusive perspectives on the fair energy transition. Additionally, the traveling exhibition “Energy in Transition – Powering Tomorrow” was presented, offering attendees an interactive exploration of renewable energy innovations and the future of mobility.
