Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter Passes Away at 96: A Look at Her Life and Legacy

Rosalynn Carter, former first lady of USA and wife of former President Jimmy Carter (1977-1981), died this Sunday (11/19/2023) at the age of 96, the Carter Center Foundation announced.

“Our co-founder, former first lady of the United States Rosalynn Carter, died this followingnoon in Plains, Georgia,” the Carter Center said on X (formerly Twitter).

Last Friday, Rosalynn Carter had begun receiving palliative care at home, where her husband also receives it.

On February 18, it was learned that Jimmy Carter, 99, had started with care at homeinstead of medical interventions, following a series of hospital admissions.

“Rosalynn was my partner in everything I achieved,” the former president said in a statement regarding his wife, who was diagnosed with dementia last year.
