Former Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz Sentenced to Prison for Illicit Enrichment and Money Laundering

Dakar, Dec 4 (APS) – A court in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, on Monday sentenced the former Mauritanian president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, to five years in prison for ”illicit enrichment” and ”money laundering ”, announced several media outlets.

He had been on trial since January 25, 2023, at the same time as 10 other personalities, including two former Prime Ministers, former ministers and businessmen.

They were accused of “illicit enrichment”, “abuse of functions”, “influence peddling” or “money laundering”.

Last October, the public prosecutor requested twenty years in prison once morest him.
