Former minister and mayor of Roeselare Luc Martens (CD&V) must repay 260,000 euros that he had borrowed from five people, Focus-WTV reported Friday evening. The Kortrijk court ruled that he had to repay the entire amount borrowed from five people or companies in the region, plus interest.

Speaking to Focus-WTV, Mr. Martens pledged to do so. Earlier, the civil court had also ordered him to make further repayments. Mr Martens borrowed some 3.2 million euros. He allegedly got himself into trouble by buying cryptocurrencies.

In total, the Kortrijk court is handling 21 cases, but many injured parties have not filed complaints. In the meantime, Mr. Martens himself has filed a complaint once morest foreign companies who allegedly defrauded him by selling cryptocurrencies.

Luc Martens is a Flemish politician, member of the CD&V. He was notably a senator, a member of the Flemish Parliament and Flemish Minister of Culture, Family and Welfare from 1995 to 1999.
