Formula 1 | Mercedes F1: Russell wants to ‘test and work for 2023’ in Austin

Mercedes F1 brings its last major development of the year to the United States Grand Prix this weekend. George Russell commented on these novelties and explained that if he does not expect a big step forward in performance, this work will be used for 2023.

“It’s not huge, but everyone works very hard” Russell said. “We want to at least test and work for next season. We are in a position where the season has passed.”

“The championship was out of our reach for a long time, but we want to use the last races to test things and have all the information for the team at the factory in the wind tunnel.

If disappointment was there for Mercedes F1, Russell puts it into perspective by having signed many podiums, and having experienced what remains his strongest season in Formula 1.

“It’s all relative, it’s still the best season of my career. We had a lot of great races with podiums. You have to take the positive from… I’m not going to say a difficult situation, but from performances that are not what we wanted.”

“We did a very good job as a team on reliability, on the engine, on the car. There are a lot of positives to take away from this season, the only thing we were missing was a bit performance.”
