The Buenos Aires Juvenile Justice yesterday sentenced the 19-year-old young man to four and a half years in prison for effective compliance who in 2021 knocked down the beach player from a parking lot in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Monserrat and caused irreversible injuries.
The decision was made following a trial of caesura by the Juvenile Criminal Judge number 11, Alejandro Villanueva, who ordered that the young man – who was 17 years old at the time of the incident – effectively serve the sentence for the “very serious injuries” caused to the beach player Arturo López (67).
The prosecutor of the case, Mauro Tereszko, said at the door of the Courts that he “is satisfied” with the judicial decision and explained that the convicted young man will remain under house arrest as he has been until now, until the sentence is final. Since the defense still has two instances to appeal the ruling.
“The sentence that the judge has ordered for the very serious injuries of Mr. López has been four years and six months in prison for effective compliance. The penalty of effective compliance is in a closed center, although it cannot be made effective at this time because the resolution must wait for the degree of firmness, “said the prosecutor.
“The request made by the prosecution, which had requested five years and three months of effective compliance, was considered; of the lawsuit, which requested six years and eight months; and the defense, which requested that the penalty not be imposed. The judge resolved in this way, ”he specified.
The plaintiff lawyer and ex-wife of the victim, Miriam Luna, and one of the beach’s daughters, Florencia, also expressed their agreement with the ruling, who said they felt “relieved” following learning of Judge Villanueva’s decision.
“This gives us a kind of relief or a feeling that Justice was more up to what we expected, I am leaving quite calm and satisfied,” said the young woman.
Last November, the convicted young man was found guilty of “very serious injuries” to the detriment of López, who currently suffers from motor problems and difficulties in speaking and understanding.
The event occurred in November 2021, around 5:00 p.m., in a garage on 800 Moreno Street. There, López was rebuked by a teenager who, according to witnesses, was complaining regarding a scratch on his vehicle. The security camera footage shows how the assailant suddenly hits López on the head, causing the man to fall and hit the ground.
