France: Georges Tron sentenced on appeal to 5 years in prison, including 3 closed, for rape and sexual assault

The former secretary of state was sentenced on Wednesday, as well as his coacussate, Brigitte Gruel. At first instance, they had both been acquitted.

La Paris Assize Court on Wednesday sentenced the former Secretary of State Georges Tron to five years in prison, including three years in prison, for rape and sexual assault in a meeting on an employee of his town hall in Draveil in 2009- 2010.

His co-accused Brigitte Gruel, then his deputy for Culture, was sentenced to two years suspended. The court, however, acquitted the two accused of similar acts alleged against them by a second complainant. Mr Tron and Ms Gruel were acquitted at first instance in 2018.
