France – World – Mediator scandal: dismissal of doctor Claude Griscelli

2024-01-09 19:37:34

The doctor Claude Griscelli was struck off by the Order of Physicians, for having influenced the senator in charge of an information report in 2011 in the Médiator affair, without informing her that he worked for the laboratory in question , we learned from the Order of Physicians.

The pharmaceutical group Servier, which marketed Mediator, an antidiabetic drug used as an appetite suppressant and held responsible for hundreds of deaths, was heavily condemned in December 2023 by the Paris Court of Appeal: it will have to pay a total fine of 9,173 million euros and reimburse more than 415 million euros to social security and mutual organizations.

In this case, Claude Griscelli was tried for “influence peddling”, suspected of having influenced Senator Marie-Thérèse Hermange, in 2011, to modify the wording of a report in which the responsibility of the Servier laboratories was mentioned.

He was finally released. But for the Order of Physicians, this “does not obstruct” to a disciplinary sanction.

Claude Griscelli”has been linked since 2001 to Servier laboratories through consultant contracts“, who carried “annual remuneration of around 90,000 euros“, recalls the Disciplinary Chamber.

According to judicial information, Claude Griscelli had “telephone or SMS exchanges throughout the work of the senatorial mission with Ms. Hermange“, whom he met “the day before“from the rendering of the report, the day she introduced”modifications, in particular on the evaluation of the number of deaths“, she adds.

He did not inform Ms. Hermange that he worked for Servier laboratories, deplores the Disciplinary Chamber.

The omission of this information in such a context constitutes a serious misunderstanding of the principles of morality and probity which are binding on the doctor.” et “brings the entire profession into disrepute“, she notes.
