Riverton, UT – Freddie Louise Dickey, a woman celebrated for her lifelong faith, musical talent, and dedication to family and friends, passed away recently at the age of 91. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Larkin Mortuary – Riverton, honoring a life filled with service and joy. Her passing marks the end of a 70-year marriage to Everett Warren Dickey and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and positive influence.
Born on October 6, 1934, in South Gate, California, Freddie Cook grew up in Maywood, California, and pursued her education at Huntington Park High School, East Los Angeles College, and ultimately earned a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, while her husband, Everett, was stationed with the Navy. Her life was deeply rooted in her faith, having been baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 15, a commitment that shaped her path of service and mentorship.
A Life of Music and Connection
Freddie Dickey’s life was enriched by a passion for music, particularly the accordion. She became a skilled accordion player and instructor, a talent that serendipitously led her to meet her future husband, Everett. The couple shared a love for the instrument, performing duets professionally and finding joy in their shared musical pursuits. This shared passion became a cornerstone of their long and loving relationship.
Beyond music, Freddie’s life was defined by her dedication to others. She served in numerous roles within her church, particularly enjoying her time working with youth, where she was described as a “Christ-like example” and a positive influence on countless young lives. Many of those she mentored maintained contact with her throughout their lives, a testament to the lasting impact she had on their development.
From California Beaches to Utah Mountains
Freddie and Everett built a life together that spanned several states, beginning with their marriage on June 10, 1956. After living briefly in Huntington Park and Costa Mesa, California, they settled in San Clemente, California, in 1964, where they raised their daughters, Jennifer Eileen Dickey Trotter and Amanda Maureen Dickey Murray. Freddie embraced the coastal lifestyle, spending countless days at the beach with her family and friends, enjoying activities like sunbathing, swimming, and bonfires.
The family too enjoyed sailing, frequently venturing out of Dana Point Harbor and towards Catalina Island in the early 1970s. Freddie’s love for life extended to travel, with cherished memories of houseboating, trips to Zion National Park, and cruises with Everett, as well as vacations to destinations like Tahiti and Hawaii. However, she always valued her faith, family, and friends above all else.
In 2017, Freddie and Everett relocated to South Jordan, Utah, to be closer to family. While accustomed to ocean views, she quickly adapted to and appreciated the beauty of the Utah mountains, actively participating in family gatherings and enjoying time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2022, she resided at Ashford Assisted Living, where she formed new friendships and enjoyed views of the Wasatch Mountains and the Draper Temple.
Remembering Freddie’s Legacy
Freddie Louise Dickey is survived by her husband, Everett Warren Dickey. her daughters, Jennifer Eileen Trotter (Jay) and Amanda Maureen Murray (Tim); five grandchildren – Zachary Timothy Murray, Justin Matthew Murray (McCall), Emily Renae Burleson (Christian), Alyssa Anne Cottle (Jaden), and Jay Braden Trotter; and eight great-grandchildren – Landon James Murray (10), Paisley Jane Murray (4), Hunter Matthew Murray (2), Everett James Burleson (5), Beau Loren Burleson (2), Jett Jaden Cottle (4), Colter Williams Cottle (2), and Remi Jay Cottle (1). She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Raymond Cook and Leatha Scott Cook.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Freddie’s honor on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. At Larkin Mortuary – Riverton, located at 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah 84065. Services will also be available to watch electronically on the Larkin Mortuary website. A private family graveside service will be held at Herriman City Cemetery.
