In the first edition of the World Cup, that of Uruguay, Argentina and Mexico crossed their paths on July 19, 1930 at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo. Mexico was already eliminated in their group and Argentina had fun with a broken toy, with a 6-3, in a match in which Guillermo Stábile stood out for the South American team, with a hat-trick.
The duel hardly had a story, with a 3-0 score for the Argentines following 17 minutes. From then on, the outlook was clear for an Argentina that led the group and then reached the final of the competition, being beaten there 4-2 by Uruguay, the first team to win the new tournament.
