To find the worst European defeat in the history of Belgian clubs, we have to go back to the 1956 season. That’s a good sign somewhere. During the second edition in the history of the Champion Clubs’ Cup, Sporting Anderlecht received a famous defeat once morest Manchester United.

In the first round, the Mauves lost 10-0 at Old Trafford. A clear score once morest the future semi-finalists of the competition who notably brought down Anderlecht thanks to a quadruplet of Dennis Viollet and a hat-trick of Tommy Taylor.

The people of Brussels will suffer other challenges during their long European history. We will notably remember the 6-1 defeat once morest Real Madrid during the 1984 UEFA Cup. The band Franky Vercauteren had suffered the law ofEmilio Butragueno (author of a hat-trick) in the round of 16.

More recently, Anderlecht lost in the Champions League once morest Paris Saint-Germain (5-0 in 2017-2018, 0-5 in 2013-2014).

The Mauves can, however, console themselves since they are the two biggest Belgian names in European competition. Paul Van Himst and his team had handed a 1-10 to FC Haka (quintuplet of Pollacks) and a 9-0 at Derre City during the 1966-1967 season.
