Gabriel Boric today became the new president of Chile.
The former student leader takes office following a resounding victory in December, and hand in hand with a profound agenda of changes with reforms to the pension, health and tax systems, among others.
His coming to power is marked by several milestones: in addition to being the youngest president in the history of Chile (at 36 years old), he is the one who obtained the largest number of votes (4.6 million) at the time of being elected.
In addition, she will lead the government with the largest number of female ministers in history: 14 ministries (out of a total of 24) will be headed by women.
One of the appointments that attracted the most attention was that of Iwithkia Sicheswho today became Chile’s first Minister of the Interior.
The 36-year-old doctor was the president-elect’s campaign manager and gained prominence during the pandemic, when she was in charge of the Chilean Medical College.
