‘A child is killed every 10 minutes in Gaza; More than half of children think regarding suicide

New Delhi: Jason Lee, Palestinian director of Save the Children NGO, says that a child is killed every ten minutes in Gaza.

In an interview with Karan Thapar, Jason Lee said that the number of children killed in Gaza in the last 28 days alone is more than the number of children killed in conflicts worldwide since 2019.

Due to the lack of clean water in Gaza, children are drinking salty water from old wells that are unusable and are at risk of infectious diseases, Lee said. He pointed out that the health sector is getting closer to a major disaster every day.

He said that the moment the temporarily arranged generators stop working, the patients in the hospital, including children, will die a slow and painful death.

In an interview for The Wire, Jason Lee also talks regarding the mental health of children in Gaza. A Save the Children 2022 report, Trapped, found that more than half of children in Gaza have thought regarding suicide, and three in five children have self-harmed.

This is a 16 year study since 2007. Lee says the attacks following October 8 may have had an even worse impact on children.
